Film and Television AwardsAcademy Awards ("Oscars")The original and still the best! The Academy Awards have occupied a position at the pinnacle of awards, known and respected worldwide. In many respects they set the standard for other awards to try to emulate. The 'Oscars', as they are known, are one of the best known and most recognisable awards in the world. Cannes FestivalThe Cannes Festival has been running since 1946 and remains one of the key events in the international film calendar. In 2004 a total of 1007 feature films were presented at the Festival, which is part funded by the French government. EMMYsThe US-based EMMY awards seek to recognise excellence within various areas of the television industry. They are administered by three sister organisations; the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, and the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. The International Academy deals with awards categories for international regions while the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences administers categories in daytime, sports, news and documentary programming. The 12,000 members of the Academy are each eligbile to cast a ballot for the category of competition in their field of expertise. The headline EMMY awards are the Primetime Awards, the Daytime Awards and the LA Area Awards. Golden Globe AwardsEstablished and organised by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, the Golden Globe Awards are one of the best-known film and television awards.
